A Food Access Market
Global to Local’s Food Innovation Network and IRC’s New Roots program joined forces to bring fresh, cultural produce to a low-food access neighborhood where the produce is grown by and for immigrant communities. The Tukwila Village Farmers Market’s origin dates back to 2018 when it was operating as a single farm stand - the Namaste Farm Stand, named after IRC’s Namaste Community Garden based in Tukwila. As New Roots gained access to farmland in Kent in 2021, existing and new growers gained opportunity to increase their production, in turn growing the number of beginning farmers participating at the market. In 2025, IRC New Roots took on sole management of the market after Global 2 Local closed its doors. The Tukwila Village Farmers Market prioritizes food access for SNAP users and encourages its vendors to offer SNAP-eligible products.

Food Access Programs
Tukwila Village Farmers Market’s mission is to improve food access opportunities for Tukwila residents. We accept the following food access currencies at our farmers market:
EBT/SNAP and Sun Bucks (Summer EBT)
SNAP Market Match
Women, Infant and Children (WIC) Fruit and Vegetable Benefits through the WIC app & WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Program (WIC FMNP) card with QR code.
Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP)
Heart Bucks - our very own market currency
Check-in at the Market Information Booth when you arrive to exchange your SNAP dollars for market tokens and get TRIPLE match!
How does TRIPLE match work?
For every $1 spent with your EBT or Sun Bucks card, you will get $3 in spending power at the farmers market.
Heart Bucks
The Heart Bucks Program has a dual purpose of helping families increase their purchasing power of healthy foods at the farmers market and supporting farm viability.
How is it funded? IRC applies for grants to fund the Heart Bucks program every year. Because funds are limited and demand is high, the Heart Bucks program is not guaranteed to last through the entire season.
Who can get Heart Bucks? Anyone! SNAP users get access to more through our Triple Match Program.
How do I sign up? Visit the Market Info booth when you arrive at the market and ask for Heart Bucks.
How much can I get? Anyone can receive a one-time amount of $40 per individual. We do not do income verification but we do collect contact information so we can track who has already received Heart Bucks for the year. IN ADDITION, SNAP users can get up to $25 per market day when you swipe your EBT card at the Market Info booth through our Triple Match Program. So for SNAP users, you can get $40 per year + up to $25 per week every week.
What can I spend it on? Heart Bucks can be spent on fresh fruits and vegetables only.
When does it need to be used by? Heart Bucks currency is only valid for the year it is distributed. You must use it within the market season or forfeit it!
Reducing Food Waste
In partnership with the South King County Food Coalition, IRC aggregates unsold produce from farmers at the end of the market day and donates to the Tukwila Pantry. Farmers are paid full price for the produce and the Tukwila community can continue to access fresh, locally grown produce.
